Each Escaperies journey is built around landscapes, movement and the kind of cultural detail that survives close attention. The route is planned. Logistics are handled. The day has a spine. But the trip is not flattened into a spreadsheet – weather, the group and the place still get a vote.
Six to twelve travellers, one guide, a route with a spine, and enough freedom for the journey to stay alive.

Structure, freedom and enough room to breathe

Small enough to feel personal, large enough to create energy. The group should feel considered, not random luggage with opinions.
02 – PERSONALLY LED
By a biologist, not a brochure
Led by Rolands – conservation biologist, expedition guide and improviser. The biology is there so the world becomes more readable, not so the trip becomes a lecture.
03 – ACTIVE, NOT EXTREME
Movement, not suffering
Hiking, paddling, wildlife watching, real days outside. You do not need to be an athlete but our jouneys are active. Sweat is not a tragedy – it is usually proof the day had a point.
04 – LOCAL TEXTURE
Places with character
Guesthouses, local guides, small operators and places with a pulse matter more than sterile perfection. Comfort is important. Generic polish is not the goal.

HOW IT WORKS
From application to journey
STEP 01
Apply
Submit the short application form. I read every one personally and respond within 24 hours. A brief conversation about the journey, your fit and any questions.
STEP 02
Confirmation
If the journey suits and the group has space, you receive the detailed programme and payment information. Payment confirms your place.
STEP 03
Travel
The group forms once at least 6 travellers have joined. If for any reason the group doesn’t form, your payment is refunded in full.
YOUR GUIDE
Travel with Rolands
I believe in journeys that have meaning and structure – which is why I designed this route myself. My naturalist’s notebook holds more than two decades of fieldwork, and eight years of running Baltic Nature Adventures taught me that the best stories happen off the beaten path. In Sri Lanka I have selected places that speak for themselves – not a mass-tourism product, but a careful mosaic of what this green, vivid island does best.
A background in improvisation has taught me to create lightness and flow within a group; conservation biology – to read the whole picture where others see only details. The goal is a journey where knowledge and experience meet humour, presence, and real respect for the nature and people around us.

Escaperies journeys can also be private – your friends, your team, your family. I design the route specifically for your group and travel the whole way with you, from arrival to last evening (if you wish).

QUICK QUESTIONS
Before you apply
Can I join alone?
Yes. Most travellers come solo. The group is small enough that no one disappears, and the rhythm is built so solo travellers do not feel like the seventh wheel. Single-room supplements are available where relevant.
How fit do I need to be?
Comfortable with active days. Hiking some days, lighter days others. No technical climbing, no marathon ambitions. Each journey page has specific fitness notes — Albania includes the Valbona–Theth pass, which is demanding and beautiful; Sri Lanka is mixed-pace.
What is included in the price?
Guiding, accommodation, in-country transport, most meals, activities listed in the itinerary, park fees and permits. International flights, travel insurance and visas are separate. Each journey page lists the specifics in full.
What happens if the journey is cancelled?
The group is confirmed once at least 6 travellers have joined. If for any reason the journey does not form, payment is refunded in full. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is required regardless.
