ESCAPERIES · PERSONALLY LED JOURNEYS
Small-group nature and adventure journeys, personally led.
Six to twelve travellers. Real landscapes, named species, sensible logistics – guided with a biologist’s eye and the lightness of someone used to reading both rivers and rooms.
ESCAPE + STORIES
What Escaperies means
Escaperies is a wordplay from escape and stories — travel stories that happen in motion. Every journey becomes your own Escape Story, shaped by the route, the group, the weather, the landscape, the unexpected moments and the way you are present inside it.
That sounds dramatic. In practice it just means small groups, thoughtful routes, active days in nature, local encounters, cultural layers and enough breathing space to avoid turning the trip into a military spreadsheet.
WHAT WE DO
Escape. Experience. Story.
01 — ESCAPE
Change the rhythm
Enough distance that the mind finally stops behaving like a browser with 47 open tabs.
02 — EXPERIENCE
Travel with the whole body
Walking, paddling, swimming, watching, listening, being properly there — not just collecting sights.
03 — STORY
Remember it as yours
A journey that turns into something you actually want to tell — with real weather, real place names and at least one moment you did not plan.
Sound familiar?
A beach relaxes you. It doesn’t always reset you.
You come back from holiday tanned but not really restored. The spa helps for a few hours; the inbox arrives in your head before the bathrobe is off. A standard group tour fills the days with strangers and small talk — social fatigue exactly where you wanted quiet.
That’s not because you don’t know how to relax. It’s because you don’t want to compromise on either the route or the people on it. You want a trip that actually switches off the everyday noise, not one that simply moves it somewhere prettier.
Escaperies is built for the reset, not just the relax.
WHAT MAKES THE JOURNEYS DIFFERENT
Designed the way good field travel actually works
Founder-set standard
Journeys follow the standards set by Escaperies founder. Some are led personally, others with trusted local guides – always with the same care, pace and values.
Nature is interpreted
Wildlife and landscapes are explained simply – not as facts to memorise, but as clues to how life adapts, connects and survives. Including us.
Right difficulty, right group
Each journey states its terrain, pace and difficulty before you apply. That way the group fits the route – and the route fits the group.
Small-group chemistry
6–12 travellers. Small enough for real conversation, quiet moments and a group that feels considered, not assembled by accident.
Wildlife, culture, places
Nature, local life, history and the small surprises of real places – connected, not collected.
Structure with room to breathe
Some journeys run tighter, some breathe more. The rhythm depends on the country, season and terrain.
UPCOMING JOURNEYS
Where we are going
Two journeys are open for 2026. A third route is being scouted — Field Notes hears about it first.

ALBANIA · 10 DAYS
The Great Albania Journey
Ionian coast, Albanian Alps, canyon rivers, Valbona–Theth pass, stone towns and Balkan hospitality. A country still sharp at the edges.
15–24 Sept 2026
from €1,420 + flights
6–12 travellers

SRI LANKA · 16 DAYS
The Great Sri Lanka Journey
Wildlife safaris, rainforest, tea country, ancient cities and the Indian Ocean doing what the Indian Ocean does very well. A living island, not a checklist.
28 Nov – 13 Dec 2026
€2,050 + flights
6–12 travellers

2027 · IN PREPARATION
Peru, Indonesia and more
New routes are being scouted. Not every destination becomes an Escaperies trip — it has to earn the time on the map first.

YOUR GUIDE
Travel with Rolands
Hello. I’m Rolands. Conservation biologist by training, expedition guide and improviser by practice. After more than a quarter century in the field, I’ve come to one stubborn conclusion: the best travel stories aren’t read off a page — they’re walked through, paddled across, and occasionally postponed because a hornbill landed on the wrong branch at the right moment.
My approach is personal and tested. For the past 8 years I’ve been refining the experience design behind my Latvia-focused brand, Baltic Nature Adventures, which holds the top ratings on Tripadvisor, GetYourGuide and Google. That same standard — the small details, the considered pacing, the not-cutting-corners — is what I’ve brought to Escaperies.
TRIPADVISOR · 5/5
What travellers say after a day in the field with me
155+ reviews on Tripadvisor — 5.0 average. These reviews are from Baltic Nature Adventures, my Latvia-focused brand, and speak to how I guide rather than to the international Escaperies journeys specifically.
Is this for you?
Escaperies is for you, if:
If you recognise yourself in at least three of these, you’re probably in the right place.
✓ You want to travel actively, but not extremely
✓ You want like-minded company, not a random tour bus
✓ You want a real reset, not just another holiday
✓ You want structured adventure, not chaos
✓ You value nature more than standard sights
✓ You’re fine when weather rewrites the plan
FROM THE FIELD
Field Notes
Travel writing with muddy boots. Escape stories from journeys worth the page.
Field observations, route notes, conservation context and practical guidance – written from the actual ground rather than a desk. Useful whether you join a journey or not.
Plan your own trip
Field-tested itineraries, route notes and practical know-how for travelling independently — with fewer wasted detours and fewer “why is this road suddenly a goat path?” moments.
Understand the wildlife
What’s actually around, what behaviour means, and why the landscape works the way it does — explained lightly by a biologist in the field.
Travel responsibly
Wildlife etiquette, overtourism traps and how to experience a place without helping ruin the thing you came to see.
Stories from the field
The slower pieces — landscape, weather, wildlife, people and the moments that begin once the guidebook stops being useful.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE
A biologist’s eye as part of the journey
Walking in the field with a biologist means noticing the things you’d otherwise walk past. It isn’t a lecture – it’s the ability to see how the pieces fit together. The way an ecosystem links everything to everything else is, more or less, the way a good journey links landscape, people and the small joy of recognising what you’re actually looking at.

LATVIA & BALTICS
Travelling in Latvia or the Baltics?
Latvia and Baltic guided tours are operated through my Latvia-focused brand, Baltic Nature Adventures. Escaperies is the international journey platform; BNA is the local one. Same guide, same standards, different commercial scope.
